Early Years
Yen-Sheng Liu was the first child born to Mr. Shao-Chih Liu and Ching-Tao Chang Liu. The young parents were living in China at the time, and the name they gave their daughter means “born in Beijing”, after the city into which they welcomed her. After a few years as the family’s only baby, Yen-Sheng would take up the role of big sister to three younger siblings: Ann Sheng, Fu Sheng (Lisa) and Tai Kuo Liu. She attended Da’an Elementary School (grades 1–6, 1954–1960) where she finished at the top of her class. She then went on middle and high school at the Taipei First Girls High School (grades 7–12, 1960–1966), and continued to excel academically. Yen-Sheng and her siblings grew up in Cheng-Kung New Village located in Section 2, Hoping Road East in Taipei. During the summers, they visited Shao-Chih’s official residence in Nantow’s Chung-Hsing New Village.
